Product Overview
This is a handy cheat sheet for finding resistor values on through-hole AND surface-mount resistors! The charts are on the front and back silkscreen layers on a 1.6mm PCB, not only helpful, but also the perfect thing to brag about to friends, family and coworkers. For THT resistors, follow the THT chart starting by finding the color of each band. For SMD resistors, follow the SMD chart starting by finding each number. This chart works for 4 band through-hole resistors and 3-4 number surface-mount resistors.
You can also read 5 band resistors with this chart, but it is a little bit harder.

Above is a 5 band resistor. Find it’s value the same way you would with a 4 band resistor, but use the third band as the 3rd place value in the final value, same as the 1st and 2nd band’s. The example above goes: orange (3), orange (3), black (0), black (x1), then brown (1%), making the value 330 ohms +- 1%. Note the orientation of this 5 band resistor, the main hard part. There will never be a metalic band like gold or silver as the first band since those are only used for the tolerance, and the first band will usually be fully ontop of the bump on the resistor, and not on the inner edge like the brown tolerance band in the photo above. When in doubt, test the resistor with a multimeter.
